Bula Vinaka bloggers!
Today I made an animation for one Fijian story that I know of. It’s about a story of a weather god named Degei. Dengei is a god that used to walk around freely. He was the creator of the Fijian Islands. Degei made the first humans in Fiji. He raised them and even learnt from them. Those children grew up and had their own children and so fourth. After someone passed away they would have to go through two caves then Degei would judge if you can go to paradise or not. Degei later on brought rain and wind and all the seasons. When degei shook he would create floods or earthquakes, when he would get mad or upset he would bring rain and wind. Now Degei is one of the highest gods in Fiji.
Bula Karolina. Thanks for sharing all those amazing facts. I’d never heard of Dengie before. Passing through those caves sounds like a very tense moment. Do you know what happened to those who didn’t make it to paradise?
I like the way you’ve given your readers time to read your text in your animation. Slide 56 is the only one that’s a bit fast. Keep up the awesome mahi Karolina. I’m enjoying your posts a lot!
Bula Vinaka Phil!
Thanks for the feedback. If they don’t get to go to paradise than they would be flung into a lake to await for their punishment.
Kia ora Karolina,
Great work on creating an animation for your chosen god – Degei. I have also never heard of Degei before. He sounds like a very powerful and influential god in Fiji. All the weather events he has created must mess up food supplies, like crops, for his people though. Is this part of the mythology behind Degei too?
I liked your animation for Degei. It was cool to see him in the clouds, obviously looking over Fiji.
Keep up the good work!
Ngā mihi,
